i have two questions.
1st:
what number do i have to call to order something from gravis directly and
what are the current prices of dram chips?
2nd:
i have registered my soundcard and now have it for about 3/4 of a year. i
still haven't received a software upgrade for anything. i'm still running
software v2.04 and i have heard that there is a new version out.
thank you for any help

I've heard of the FS5 update which have GUS support, I want to know
where I can find that patch, I saw a major update of FS5 in the microsoft
site (1.4 Mb) but the discription didn't mention about GUS.
If anyone knows where the patch is, please post the address!
Thanks in advance!

I have seen many people with problems playing .AVI files in Windows, with
GUS sound slowing them down. Well, I have the same problem, and even
following their hints (disk cache, etc), it still does not run smoothly.
I thought the new Windows drivers fixed this!
In the PC Magazine review of MicroSoft Sound System 2.0 software, they
mentioned that it needed a driver. Do they mean the normal Windows
drivers, or does it need a special Sound System driver that the GUS
probably doesn't have?

Will there be an upgrade path available to current GUS owners? I don't
really think I need a Max, but if it becomes a big thing and the GUS
isn't supported anymore, I'd like to know now..

My point was that are you sure you're using the _new_ ultrajoy.exe in
gus0041? The install program does _not_ always correctly copy over
newer files (witness the ultrasnd.ini fiasco). If you've ftped an older
ultrajoy.exe (ftp does not preserve file time stamps) or have touched
its date in any way, install might not recognize your ultrajoy.exe as
being older than the one in gus0041 and thus not copy the new one on
top of it. I recall that the initialization bug in ultrajoy.exe has
been corrected in gus0041, so it shouldn't be giving you any difficulties.
If, in reality, the bug still exists, then Gravis should be notified.
I should check ultrajoy out myself, but my current hardware setup is
not like yours. So, if you can Restore ultrajoy.exe (using install.exe
on your gus0041 disk) to your \ultrasnd directory to ensure that it's
the latest one, then run it after ultrinit.exe to see if it hoses your
GUS, I'd appreciate it.
Phat.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
OK, I am using ultrinit v.2.18 AND ultrajoy. I have not yet have anything
playing music to puke because of a falsely inititalised GUS. Nor do I have
my joystick screwed up. Guess I should have try to play the Triton demo, but
I've already deleted it because of its size. But anyway, I have had no
problem whatsoever with GUS0038 + GUS0039/40 with my rev. 2.4 board. What
exactly do you mean by GUS not properly initialised anyway?
BTW Phat, ultrinit sends a huge spike when I run it the first time (at boot),
I remember you said something about it some time ago, can you tell me what's
the solution to that? Thanks.

Your problem is the IRQ 11 setting. Change it to 7 and all will be
fine. Doom doesn't support double digit IRQ's.
I had the same problem. I couln't use IRQ 5, because my MIDI card was
set to that IRQ. Anyway, 7 seems to work fine and I am so hopelessly
addicted to the game that I've registered it, and my wife has disowned
me. :-)
For fun: "God Mode Punchout"
-----------------------------
You may have noticed that, when you're invincible, you get the chainsaw.
The way to get invincible and do some serious fist work, is to select "1"
BEFORE you type "iddqd". After that, you can punch all you like, as long
as you never select a weapon. It's great, and you can't die, so you can
just punch your way through as many areas as you like! I've noticed that,
if you take a running punch at someone, they splatter, while a face to
face duke-out simply ends in them falling to the floor.

For our GUSser from the UK:
This game Hired Guns supposedly does not have GUS support in the
European version, only in the US one. I have seen the US version, and I've
heard the sound, it is excellent.
However, the game itself is an Amiga game, and has been ported to the
PC, and as all Amiga games, the graphics are horrible. The gameplay is
also not good. It does sound great, however. *shrug*

Okay, the problem is that DOS4GW (which is used by DOOM) cannot use
interrupt 11 (or anything above 9, I think. Maybe not even above 7).
Set yours to 5 or 7 and it should work fine. In addition, make sure
you've upgraded to the GUS0041 (or have GUS0038 and patched that patch
with GUS0040) drivers.

Subject: Mircocosm and UltraMID 1.09.
Hello.
I just picked up the US release of Mircocosm. Tough game! Killer
music. A whole set of XMI's just for GUS support! Kudos to Psygnosis!
The "Fractal" video is impressive, better than QTW and VFW.
My main question. The Game ships with Ultramid 1.09 on it. Is this a
specific one for Microcosm, or should I replace my 1.08 with it always?
Also, can other Psygnosis games (Lemmings 2/Dracula) run with the GUS AIL
drivers?
Thanks,
-sCott

Subject: Pause in X-wing
I seem to remember this being discussed a few months ago, but at the
time I didn't have X-Wing installed...
When I target something, the game pauses for a few seconds. If I
remember correctly, this is not caused by Mega-Em, but by the memory
manager. Is this correct, and if so, what is the fix? (I'm NOT
willing to shell out $$$ for a new memory manager. It'd have to be a
fix for EMM386 in DOS 6.2.)
Thanks!

Hi,
I play simcity2000 using the 32AIL drivers which enable me to use a
Roland Sound Canvas for music and an SB for FX. I'm no musician but I'm sure
the music I hear when playing the game is out of tune !!!!!!,
Any one out there running sc2K with these drivers ? what do you think ?
Happy netting JeffB :-)

Hello all.... finally, all done. I had actually finish validating

problems hence I have only really been able to move a couple of
files every time I get a chance to get onto EPAS. But anyways,
here are the latest files validated....
Please give all the other sites 24 hours to mirror the updates

pranze.zip - Can't confirm if this works since it needs UltraTracker 1.5
but the latest we have seen (and archived) is 1.4
Well, that's it for another validation period. I hope things will calm
down a little from now on. And all our archives will run a lot smoother
without all the problems we've been having the last couple of months.
If you see any mistakes, please let me know! EMail will be fine.
Notes to uploaders, we still have reports of files being deleted in
the submit directory, before, during and after each validation
period. If you are having problems submitting files, email me and
we can make other arrangements.
There are a good number of very nice contributions once again. Most if
not all the programs up there are you-have-to-try-them-at-least-once
types. Finally, a very nice 669 composer in unis. GLX is pretty cool.
Lots of patches and utilities now to make some pretty fancy songs.
Check out uss001.zip, our first software newsletter. Now do we have
everything? :) From FAQs, to The G List, to the umteen digest/mailing
lists we have, to multiple archives..... and now our own newsletter.
Thanks to everyone for all your support and contributions!!
Happy GUSing!
Thomas.
P.S.
Personal special thanks to both of our GUS OS/2 drivers developpers!
And a note to all (especially mirror sites) that we now have a new
directory, .../util/os2, because of the efforts of the people above.
Thanks again!
